Stanley was a former narrow gauge tank engine on the Mid-Sodor Railway.
Stanley was built in Pittsburgh prior to World War I, working in America before being sent to work on the Mid-Sodor Railway. Due to being regauged improperly, Stanley had a tendency to ride roughly and come off the rails. Despite repeated attempts to rectify the gauging problem, Stanley was eventually turned into a pumping engine for the Arlesdale Works. Later he was transferred to the mines at Cas-ny-Hawin, and his failure many years later caused the mines to flood and force closure upon the Mid-Sodor Railway.
Stanley was arrogant and careless and refused to listen to advice. This carelessness eventually led to him being converted into a pumping engine.
- Stanley was made by Turtlesandthomas using a Wooden Railway Fearless Freddie with a Take Along Sir Handel face.
- Stanley is the second engine to be seen smoking, and the fourth character overall, the first being The Ballast Hopper, Lola Lovefray and Asbestos.
- Stanley is the third character to have a cigar as a permanent feature on his model.
